2001 marked the 50th Anniversary of  The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Founded in 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, ACOG today has over 46,000 members and is the nation's leading group of professionals providing health care for women. Now based in Washington, DC, it is a private, voluntary, nonprofit membership organization.

Membership in the Alliance for Children and  Families includes nonprofit child- and  family-serving organizations across the country. The Alliance aims to strengthen members' capacity to serve and advocate for children, families, and communities by providing public policy and advocacy efforts, research and resource development, library services, media information, and community programs.

The Role of the Pediatrician in Recognizing and Intervening on Behalf of Abused Women

Pediatricians are in a position to recognize abused women in pediatric settings. Intervening on behalf of battered women is an active form of child abuse prevention. Knowledge of local resources and state laws for reporting abuse are emphasized.  Please check out the home page for other articles.

 

Supporting the public interest use of communications media, the Benton Foundation provides leadership in the emerging communications environment and promotes the value of communications in solving social problems.

Chance for Change is a coalition of domestic and sexual violence agencies in the Tri-County area, Portland, Oregon.  We provide specialized presentations on teen dating violence and date rape for young people.   We have developed a longer two-week curriculum and can train teachers to present it in the classroom.  Some young people have been successful in creating groups to work against teen dating violence.  Chance for Change can provide materials and technical assistance for such groups.  Chance for Change also has posters and brochures available on teen dating violence.

The Dependency Court Intervention Program for Family Violence

is a pilot project developed to review justice system procedures for women and children who have been abused. The program offers voluntary free counseling to women and their children in cases in which the court has intervened and removed youth from the home.

The Family Violence Prevention Fund works to end domestic violence and help women and children whose lives are affected by abuse. The Web site offers free online catalogs, articles and information on abuse and violence, press releases and story archives, information on public policy efforts, and other resource materials.

This knowledge path about domestic violence has been compiled by the Maternal and Child

Health (MCH) Library at Georgetown University, and it offers a selection of current, high-quality resources and information tools. It is aimed at policymakers, health professionals, advocates, and families who are interested in tracking timely information on this topic, and it will be updated periodically.

The mission of the National Domestic Violence

Fatality Review Initiative (NDVFRI) is to provide technical assistance for the reviewing of domestic violence related deaths with the underlying objectives of preventing them in the future, preserving the safety of battered women, and holding accountable both the perpetrators of domestic violence and the multiple agencies and organizations that come into contact with the parties.

Project Harmony

Project Harmony's mission is to build strong communities by fostering civic leadership, harnessing Internet technology and facilitating cross-cultural experiential learning. Project Harmony was founded in Vermont in 1985 as a grassroots exchange organization for Soviet and American high school students. To provide concrete guidance to communities, policy leaders, and individuals engaged in activities to end violence against women, the National Advisory Council on Violence Against Women developed the Toolkit To End Violence Against Women. The recommendations contained in the Toolkit were reviewed by numerous experts in the fields of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking.

The mission of the Violence Against Women and Family Violence Research and Evaluation program is to promote the safety of women and family members, and to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the criminal justice system's response to these crimes.

Violence Prevention Resources is one of several new, comprehensive children's and youth resource guides from Streetcats Foundation and The National Children's Coalition's YOUTH AND CHILDREN RESOURCE NET. Our children and youth continue to be highly at-risk from violence on the street, at school and at home.

These resources can help you, your school, neighborhood or city to learn what fosters violence and what can be done to prevent it and to begin conflict resolution and keep our kids safe.
