Men's Network Against Domestic Violence

A challenge to ending domestic violence is the

silence and inaction of the majority of non-violent

people.  Many believe what happens in someone's

home is a private matter.  Unfortunately, this

belief advantages the abuser and isolates the

victim.  Without a strong and vocal social

response, abusers will continue to commit violence

unchallenged.

Assessing Whether Batterers Will Kill

Some batterers are life-endangering. While it is

true that all batterers are dangerous, some are

more likely to kill than others and some are more

likely to kill at specific times.  Regardless of

whether there is a protection from abuse order

in effect, officers should evaluate whether an

assailant is likely to kill his partner or other family

members and/or police personnel and take

appropriate action..............

Lots of people do. Abuse is not simply a male

Abuse is an equal opportunity problem. Nobody is

abused. Anybody can abuse someone they care

Public Health Strategies Identified to Reduce Family Violence

The family can be a violent place, whether

"family" means married couples, partners living

together, and even people in dating relationships.

Social agencies including law enforcement, social

services and the health care system see the victims

different agencies have struggled alone to deal

with the havoc family violence causes.

Reasons why women stay in abusive relationships

One of the most frustrating things for people

outside a battering relationship is trying to

understand why a woman doesn't just leave. The

most important thing to keep in mind is that

extreme emotional abuse is always present in

domestic violence situations. On average, an

abused woman will leave her partner 6-8 times.

The reasons they return or stay in the relationship

vary from case to case. Some of these include:

Understanding the Victims of Spousal Abuse

As I write about spousal victimization I realize

three very different audiences will read these

words. First are those who are victims; second are

those who were victims; third are those concerned

enough to care and to learn and to help, but never

victimized themselves. Since the word, victim,

carries connotations and associations that some

find degrading, I use it with misgivings.

Unions Respond to Domestic Violence

Union interest in this issue grows out of a strong

tradition of fighting for social and economic

justice. In addition to a higher standard of living,

unions have fought for respect, civil and human

rights, personal self-determination, and freedom

from violence. Therefore, it is of little wonder that

the labor community is committed to ending

domestic violence.
