Judges often doom children to
life of abuse
Documentary sheds light on system
that lets children suffer at the hands of abusive fathers
A revealing documentary
exposes a national scandal in our courts across
America
where child victims of domestic violence are involved in custody cases.
This extraordinary PBS documentary, “Breaking the Silence: Children’s
Stories,” premieres this Thursday, October 20 at 10 pm ET on PBS (check local
listings attached for your area).
New York Yankees Manager,
Joe Torre, describes his own family abuse and poignantly describes a time when
his father, a
New York
policeman, reached for a gun while his sister tried to protect herself with a
knife.
Bob Port reports in Times
Union out of Albany, NY, “This week, every judge, lawyer, psychiatrist,
psychol[ogist], social
worker with any connection to family law … ought to be taken into custody,
escorted to their local courthouse and forced to watch “Breaking the Silence:
Children’s Stories.”
Mothers and children are
punished for demonstrating that they are victims of abuse by husbands and
fathers. Children’s voices are ignored, and frequently the
courts take the children away from protective mothers and put them in the
custody of the abusive father.
In the documentary children
describe the abuse to them and their brothers and sisters and plead for their
protection.
The one-hour special
features interviews with domestic violence experts, attorneys and judges as well
as Walter Anderson, Chairman and CEO of Parade Magazine.
“Breaking the Silence: Children’s Stories,” produced by Dominique
Lasseur and directed by Catherine
Tatge was co-produced with Connecticut Public
Television and underwritten by The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation.

If you have a story
of a loved one that has lost the fight against Domestic Violence, please
share
it with us. We would like to continue sharing the
stories in hope that others will see just what Domestic Violence is, a travesty
that must end.
If you are a
Non-Custodial Mother, and would like support, or can share your case file,
please contact
us. You are NOT alone.......
If you are a Victim
or Survivor of Domestic Violence, and you have not received the help that you
needed, or did not gain justice through the courts, please,
let us
know. We must work together to bring about a change,
and the only way to do that is to show the problem.
Enough is ENOUGH!
Together, we CAN and WILL make a difference!
A victim's first scream is
for help: a victim's second scream is for justice."-
